“Bukhorcha” Dance & Song Ensemble

“Bukhorcha” Dance & Song Ensemble was founded in 1980 in Bukhara. Consisted of 35 people, the ensemble is aimed at studying and promoting music heritage of the Bukhara region and thus strengthening world peace and cultural understanding among nations.
“Bukhorcha”s repertoire includes Bukharan, Khorezm and Fergana folk dances and songs as well as works by modern composers.
The ensemble is called “Bukhorcha” for its program is rich with old music pieces performed during wedding ceremonies. Such folk dances as “Charkh-i Zonu,” (“Rotation on Knees”), “Kift Qoqish” (“To shrug shoulders”), “Bedona Qadam” (“the quail walk”) or Mavrigi, an old traditional Persian-Tajik folk piece, are great examples of that cultural richness. In Mavrigi, especially, one could see beautiful costumes and wonderful performance of instruments peculiar to Bukhara.
Music instruments of “Bukhorcha” includes doira, dutar, tanbur, nay, chang, gijjak, qashqar rubob, Bukhoro rubob and soz that help enrich dance and song performances.
The ensemble is popular not only in Uzbekistan but also abroad. Its performers have taken part in a number of international Folk Festivals and cultural fairs held in the USA(1988), Canada(1988), Spain (1988), France (1996), Germany (1999, 2001), and Belgium (2003).
